I had the 1022 didnt care for the magazine on it but the gun shot where you pointed it. I never scoped it. I have never shot a scoped 22 long. I have shot a scoped 22 mag that belongs to my Dad but I don't remember the brand. Whatever it is, the brand is better known for shotguns, but made a heck of a 22 mag!

We have a Savage Rascal we bought for our boys. Obviously that's too small for your son's needs. But I have been impressed with it. It's good quality, trigger is really nice, and it's a very accurate tack driver. Seems that the rest of their line-up is supposed to be great as well, especially for the price. I've been known to (awkwardly, because it's small and I'm large) put some rounds through it too, because it shoots so nice. A Savage for myself is probably my next purchase, because this Rascal has been so nice.

For the merit badge he has to do 5 groups inside a quarter at 50 feet... something he can learn on before moving up to 5.56 or 6mm
old rem 6mm is like 250/3000 obsolete so ammo is stupid spendy. 250 was my go to whitetail rifle for 30 years in 99 savage
