About 2 years ago, I rescued a weird piece of wood that appeared to be a bunch of tangled roots that had grown together, not in a ball shape, but flat. I cut sections out where I thought some cool grain or root patterns would be. This cup below is my first turning from that piece. I didn't hollow it down to the bottom as I encountered a natural crack and was afraid I'd lose the piece if I went further. It does make a nice pencil cup though. I finished it with tung oil. The inside is torched and the rim is done in gold rub'n buff.

I really like it! Any idea what type of wood it is?
