A Place for Wood Photography or Photos Showing Off Wood?

Hi all! Has there ever been any thought to creating a forum on the site that focuses on:
  • The art/method of taking photos of the wood and wood products we make?
  • Showing off examples of wood we have no intention of selling/trading, but are really proud to own?
One of the other sites I used to frequent more often in the past had similar sections that I enjoyed browsing/contributing to...

I realize there are sections for different final products made by members, but I feel like the site could always benefit from enhanced photography techniques or offer assistance to those with questions about how to improve their own skills. I also think people would love an opportunity to share recent wood purchases, acquisitions, or just want to share with like-minded folks. Some others less cultured than ourselves may call it "wood p*rn" (I'm pretty sure this site replaces the word I sorta censored with something else).

As an example, I recently procured a billet of ringed gidgee that I was thrilled to discover had the intense curl I had been looking to get my hands on for so long, so I took a picture using a new-to-me photo technique (macro) and I had no idea where to share!...

I know there may be a thread or two that touches on aspects of what I've asked about, but I think there may be more opportunity to make these concepts more of an established "thing". I would love to hear input or discuss!

Sweet looking piece of gidgee. Seems this forum would be a good place for showing off wood pics and discussing wood characteristics like this:

https://woodbarter.com/forums/wood-identification-characteristics-of-wood.40/
I kinda thought that forum was a place to go for help identifying or confirming wood species rather than posting known species for the fun of it. Like, using my gidgee example, I know what it is and that it came from a reputable dealer, so I'm not looking for discussion about that. But if I posted that pic in the wood ID forum, I'd fully expect to get suggestions that it was a variety of other species, just because that seems to be the nature of the specific forum. Haha

what about photo gallery- top of main page
To be honest, I never even noticed that. Taking a closer look, it appears to be a rudimentary photo repository type feature with little/no opportunity for engagement or discussion. I wonder how it was intended to be used. I never see new posts to the photo gallery appear in any feed that is obvious like forum postings do (maybe I'm missing them if they are few and far between).

I feel like someone posting an example of cool wood they have might also want to discuss things about it, their plans for it, and leave the photo there for the search feature to pick up when people are looking for similar things as a visual reference, or to find sources for the wood in the future. Like, in the past I posted pics of some of my tamo ash in a "pretty wood" thread and was able to share leads to more with folks who asked.

Just a thought.

We had something like that a while ago, but it got abused quite a bit by back door deals. So we just got rid of it.

That's too bad. Thanks very much for adding that bit of background.
