No, I'm not Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery
I'm James, just James.
I've been woodworking as a hobbyist for about 13 years, then 2 years ago I started renting an outbuilding from a friend and putting together my own woodshop. In August the Printing company I was working for went out of business and I became a "dislocated worker". The New York Dept. of Labor has a Self-employment program which was the break I needed to start my own wood craft business. I'm still in the start up stages.
I started turning a year and a half ago when I bought a cheapie tabletop lathe at Harbor Freight just to play around with and fell in love with turning. I've since upgraded to a Rikon lathe, which is how I found this place. Searching for a replacement belt I found a thread here and decided to join.
I like to make "practical" things for the home, such as clocks, lamps, vases, candle holders, coat racks, benches, and I've made a few live edge tables. I like to use the most beautiful and unique pieces of wood I can find, and buff everything to a high gloss shine.
Here are a few pics of some of my more recent work, but in no way covers everything I've made over the years.
I've even made a couple musical instruments, but I stopped because I'm no musician, and they take a long time to make.
This looks like a pretty good forum, and I'm looking forward to meeting and learning from you all.
Thanks,
James
