Bad news after sanding a black walnut sample up to 10'000-grit.
That is, chatoyance keeps growing as grit increases, and even at 10'000-grit it looks like it's still growing!
In addition, chatoyance after finishing with shellac is significantly higher on this ultra-fine-sanded sample than on its bookmatched twin, which was sanded to 240-grit.

That's the point! Ultra-fine sanding + shellac gives more chatoyance than normal sanding + shellac!
That is, at least on these black walnut samples.
