Started a chair seat out of a butt cut a neighbor sold me as a cottonwood 20210425_185519.jpg
It had a bit of pink for a cottonwood 20210425_185458.jpg
also had a good bit of spalt 20210425_185451.jpg
It's about 12 inches thick and around 32 to 36 across 20210425_185445.jpg
This portion took me about an hour and a half from stump to this stage. Using mostly chainsaw so far with a little application of a grinder with 36 grit metal grinder disk. It's about time to switch to all grinder work.

Will try to update as it progresses.

Will be attempting to keep a little live edge on the underside of the arms.

Another 30 min grinding.

Got a little shape started on one arm

Plan to lay wood epoxy putty in the cracks after it finishes drying.

Have all the main chainsaw cuts removed except the slice where the seat and back meet. It's about an inch deeper.

This is to be a bit deeper than a normal seat to allow a few cushions since wood looks softer than it feels. Amtoying with the idea of a cup holder in the arm. What are your thoughts folks?

Note. This is definitely to be an indoor chair in my mind.

It’s looking good so far, a cup holder would be cool but I keep hearing this little voice that says, don’t do it. Just my $.02.

Cup holder would be nifty! Chuck

The wife nixed the cupholder, said it would cheapen the chair, I think she just wants a side table...

It's not hard to miss. I only update when I get to work on it... so far that has been about 3 rounds. Been trying to clear the yard on the dry days for a shop build, working on a headboard for a friend on wet days, and general house upkeep in the mix. That was the real reason for the 'long term' label. I know me too darn well to expect a 10 day project :sarcastic:

It is " drying" on the back porch at the moment. I can only work on it between projects on dry days. The past year was completely filled with animal sheds and family projects. Haven't given up on it, just worked out kind of like I figured.
Will try to get back into it when it warms back up. Poke me again about April?
