Rebuilt the insides of mine last year - been running like a charm since, but now covered up with junk and haven't been able to use is lately. In the process, found a good, old school, local place to buy parts from. Walking through is a tool junkies dream - well you don't really walk through, you shuffle around things, move things, etc.. until you get to the parts counter.

I bought mine used. It's still tight and runs smooth. I still think it's one of the better scroll saws for the money, even new.

Had a short day at work today so I got some good shop time.
Got 20 crosses so far and a stack of logo medallions to sand. Used up the Mesquite blanks I processed.

I need some more stock so I resawed some walnut short scraps. 5/4 split in half.

Ran the blanks thru the planer to dimension them at 3/8"

Then it was time to empty the dust collector barrel. Everyone loves that job right?

Going through my wood rack in the shop and pulling out scrap cut offs and shorts to use up.

I cut some crosses out of the walnut today. I tried white pencils but they didn't work so good for tracing the template. Went with a fine line black sharpie and that worked well on the walnut.
These are all sanded.

Species are now oak, Mesquite, walnut, and a couple box elder.

Got the patterns re.oved from the logo medalions and sanded.

Tested these out with one coat of wipe on blo. They look richer and feel nice to the touch.

Walnut and box elder with blo.
I get 2 to 3 crosses per walnut short board.

Then I cut them apart on the bandsaw.

Only one entry hole needs to be drilled on the crosses.

I made a finishing rack for the crosses and got what I have made wiped down with blo.

The oil on these should be absorbed by tomorrow.

Then i had an idea the other day to make the logos into refrigerator magnets. I got some rare earth magnets from amazon. Set a stop on the drill press and drilled some holes with a brad point bit.

It worked, lol.

Then I pulled some more odds and ends out of the wood rack and planed them down to 3/8" thickness. I wanted to try and get some more color for the crosses to give people a choice.

I think theres some paduk or bloodwood in there. Some bubinga, box elder, ash, and soft maple.
This should keep me in stock for awhile.
I filled the dust collector drum again. The planer makes really fluffy chips.

Well I got 37 more crosses cut out this week after work. These all have to be sanded yet. Then they'll get a coat of blo.

Well the crosses and refrigerator magnets went over very well at church, gone in 60 seconds. Pastors mom got the first cross.
I guess I better get busy on the next batch.
A lot of people approached me and said thank you for doing that for the church members.
That really made me feel good even though it isn't about me.

I cut blanks for a new batch of crosses.

Then it was off to the sanding mopp.....

And started sanding last weeks production of crosses. Only 37 to go, lol.

2nd batch, 37 crosses all sanded. Walnut, box elder, ash, and maple.

The box elder really comes to life with the blo.

And I finished the cross for my coworkers 9 year old son. It has a coat of blo, a stainless steel eylet, and a waxed cotton necklace cord with a clasp. I hope he likes it. Betty gave me a gift box for it.

All 35 boxed up and took them to church, only a few where left.

Started on the next batch, these are all exotics but I can only guess at the species because i didnt mark what they are. The edges on one of them burn if you even look at it, lol.

So today I got some shop time and worked on refining the cross necklace a little bit and made a template for it. I shortened the top up a little from the first one I made. I think the proportions are better now.
The dark piece was the first one I made. Then I re drew it and cut the template out of some 1/8" material. Then I cut one out of some box elder scrap.

Then sanded it down on the belt sander to thin it down a little and reduce the thickness.

Traced out a couple more.

I have teeny tiney stainless steel eyelets for them. I use a super small drill bit to drill a pilot hole for them.

Sanded and dipped in blo.

It's a bit of a challenge working in miniature, lol.
Still playing with scroll saw blade sizes and styles to find one that cuts clean but not to slow in the 3/8" scrap material I am using.
I think the kids at church are going to like these.

I got some rosewood thins from @Jason Martin so I had to cut a couple out to try it. Cuts really nice on the scroll saw with a crown blade.

They should look really nice once the blo soaks in.
