This is new old stock and unused- very sharp as is. This is a custom prototype “one-off” due to the unusual width as typically the standard sizing for Japanese chisels are in increments of 3mm. Typically there is a 9mm and followed by a 12mm. They usually will not deviate in their standard sizing as it takes more time to custom make particular size only for one individual chisel. I wanted to experiment on an idea on that “one ideal chisel” in your tool box idea and usually it is the 1/2” wide. So came up with an idea between a 3/8” and a 1/2”- this 7/16” size was born.
Hand forged in Yoita, Niigata Perfecture. Hand forged with blue paper steel/Aogami No.1 on the cutting edge. Aogami blue paper steel as cutting edge is durable when it comes to handling hardwoods and denser woods. Damascus steel blade on the laminated multi layer core chisel blade body forming a “mokume-suminagashi” marbling/wood grain pattern. Sen scraped polished finish with double hollow back (ura); hollow back allows ease of sharpening. The chisel shape of the chisel sides are “Mentori” (chamfered). Tang chisel with ferule. Lacquered Macassar ebony handle. Hand hammer hoop and ferrule. Will need to be fine tuned and set up to your taste for your desired woodworking, and/or guitar building needs.
