I can't seem to figure out how to start a conversation with a member. How does it work?

Steve - I tested you permissions and you have the ability to start conversations. Follow Tom's instructions. Dead center of the box that pops up when you click an avatar are the words "Start a conversation" Click on that and your off and running!

Here is what happens when you click on Toms Avatar. Click where the circle is in the middle. Notice your name and permission set in the upper right corner.

Would it be possible to check to see if i am able to start a conversation too? I need to pm steve, but likewise can't seem to figure out how to do it.

Sorry to be a pest by asking, but I've read this thoroughly and have come to the conclusion that I definitely don't have the "start a conversation" option when I click on someone's avatar and bring up their profile like in the screenshot above. Hoping for a little help from an administrator, as I want to start buying wood! Thanks!
