It is that time of the year again......time to make Christmas gifts for all of the secretarys and office staff at school. Last year I made cutting boards and this year planning to make cheese boards. The cheese boards will be made using walnut and maple. Looking for some 4/4 curly hard maple boards that are at least 3" wide. Each board will be just over 16" long so trying to find board lengths in lengths of 3 or 6 foot to reach the total I need (although 3 foot may be better for shipping). Needing pretty heavy and consistent curl to achieve the desired effect as the maple strips will only be slightly over 1" wide.

Have plenty of big leaf. Hard maple consistent curl, more elusive and more $$$$

I think Big Leaf would be fine for this project

Kris, I have a piece of hard maple that is 6 3/4 x 6' long. The curl is not super tight but the grain deviation might make up for that? Here is a picture of a piece I cut from the end for a cutting board that I haven't got to yet. LOL

If you think this would work I would want $8.00 per bf. so $27 plus shipping for two three foot long pieces.
    Thanks Rob

No worries if not. I realise you're looking for tight curl:ok:

I will keep this in mind, but yes, hoping to find tighter curl to get the desired effect.

@rob3232, your piece looks more quilted than curly but pretty either way.

@khobson I did some digging in my Hard Maple pile and found a piece or two that may work for you? The piece I'm showing is 5" x 6'. It is rough sawn kiln dried a hair over an inch thick. I can cut in half for shipping. Its hard to get a picture of a 5" x 6' piece of wood, trust me:sorry:

A couple of picts of one side

Price is $15 per board foot. So $36 plus shipping.
The other piece is 4 1/2 x 6'. That would be $33 plus shipping. ( I will post pictures if you want that also. )

    Thanks Rob
