I am about to miter some walnut for a box.
I am using my 10" miter saw with a 60T carbide blade.
Does it matter if the wood is standing up, or laying flat for the best cut?

Is there a difference?

Can you tell it's been awhile since I sliced up some wood?
Thanks for any help.

I would answer that it could vary depending on the species of wood, moisture co tent, etc. I would do a few test cuts both ways with the actual wood being used. A few cuts with scrap wood of any kind will tell you if your saw is square and set up properly too.

In theory, it should work fine either way if your saw is dialed in on both settings, as Greg said, nothing beats a test cut to tell the tale.....

I agree with theory but when cutting tall miters -4-5" I find miter saw to work the best.

It should work either way if it is not too tall to begin with. I would use the method that allows me to clamp or hold the board the most secure to prevent the wood creeping while sawing. JMO
