@RJBud1 was looking for a bit of dogwood. I have a couple pictures to present and maybe we can figure out where we go from here. 20220319_132548.jpg some dogwood in my firewood/waste pile. 20220319_132505.jpg the nicely spalted piece of dogwood on my workbench waiting... 20220319_081653.jpg a few mid smallish dogwoods waiting to be milled 20220319_081646.jpg a dogwood stump with the buttressing flair. Was hoping to find curl here. 20220319_081637.jpg a dogwood stump with rootball attached. Aged 3 years. 20220319_081615.jpg butt end of 30 inch stump section with minor buttressing. Which means the tree is even smaller than what it appears in this shot. 20220319_081600.jpg the side shot of that stump section. Note void under hand. May be rough inside. 20200628_125433.jpg this is a piece of dogwood root section that we used as a table support under a round glass top for a rustic themed wedding cake stand. This piece is not available. The other pieces shown are. Also note that is not by any stretch the full inventory. I may even be able to wrest a board out of my lumber shed later. If I find that one, it is likely my only dry piece. No guarantees.( also not counting the spalted dogwood pen blanks hanging from my cabinet.

All this to say. I need specific size ranges. I am willing to pack a large ups shipment and send it your way for the shipping cost which was around 30 bucks last I knew. The large package usually will hold in the range of 10 board feet of useful material in whatever rectilinear configuration fits best with your needs. That is a 12 inch cube with room removed to account for packaging. That is less than 1 scrap bucket full... if you only want 3 or 4 pieces of dogwood, give me sizes and I can backfill the package with something else like ... I dunno, burly maple, callery pear with a bit of odd figure, maybe ... anyway, let me know. Maybe something will work out and I won't have to throw it all in the burn pile.

Hi 2feathers,

Thank you for putting the time into making this post, I appreciate it. What are the dimensions on this piece?

Some sizes I would appreciate- knife scale size (6" by 2" by 3/8" thick), this forum has it marked as a very odd width, I think WoodBarter says 1 5/8" is the right size. I have talked to many knifemakers, online, and in person, and they prefer 2" width. The 5 1/2" long length doesn't matter, usually I see scales 5-6" long.

A slab, 6x6x2". And if you have anything 10" long, 2" thick and 5-7" wide, that would be useful for my mitered boxes.

Let me know, I should be home by March 28th. I can trade some of the lumber I have, though it's all in various stages of green. I could always make you a small knife too.

Also if you have any pieces of Photinia, I'd be interested in those too.

The piece you circled
16477210167906580748591712748382.jpg butt end thickness 16477211716445282253590819660148.jpg widest point . This piece narrows about ¾ inch in 12 inches. Usable wood at 2 inch thickness should be in the 5 to 7 inch range. 20220319_140955.jpg 20220319_141016.jpg this is a sawmill slab. That I can whiz through my planer to 2 inch thickness and see where we are or I can cut it to 23 inches long and you can thin it at your end.
Do you have a decent saw to resaw or do you need the scales precut?
The piece you circled is wet. The second one is about 2 years old in a black tin shed that I like to think helps stuff dry in the summer .

I have more pictures and a few folks on the board here can vouch that I may have a few more pieces and varieties of native woods. 20220319_141723.jpg Apple thins. ⁷/16 x 2 ⅞ x about 12 inches. 16477225728191634386876789382020.jpg green stained oak 20220319_142542.jpg figured bradford pear 20220319_142559.jpg figured oak 20220319_143000.jpg oak rootstock that survived a fire 20220319_142503.jpg box elder thins (this flame requires uv protection to retain the color) 20220319_141900.jpg figured walnut that may well yield either knife or box...
This is some of my small stuff that I am being told is under foot and has to go.
I own a csm and a band saw mill and have the trailer for a larger mill sitting in my yard. I love wood and enjoy sharing it with others who enjoy it.

Frank, do you have any 1x4 or something I can get pot call blanks out of? I had a board of dogwood and cannot find it. Don't know what happened to it. I'd like to have some on hand. It makes great calls. Like this piece is what I'm after unless you have a board

Frank,

Do you have any spindle 1"x 1"x 9" dogwood you would be willing to part with? I want to try making a couple strikers out of it.

That piece is wet. I should be able to gather some pot call size pieces. Let me cut RJs stuff and see what drops I have left in dry stuff.

I do have a crappy bandsaw that works for thin stuff.

Usually I use my tablesaw to cut my scales, my tablesaw is a 1980's craftsman powerhorse. One time I was cutting a pallet board, hit three nails. Didn't feel anything. I only noticed because there were 3 shiny metal dots on the sawn board.

I also have a planer jig that let's me plane pieces under 12".

The 23" long piece would probably be costly to ship.

That green stain oak is BEAUTIFUL, I'm interested in some scales of that too.

This box seems to be going out but I still have a couple 16477301528712224437996309974730.jpg
This is the large gamebox usps.

The ups shipping is the same price for any format up to 84 inches long as long as it is less than 1728 cubic inches. That is what I was quoting you as a 30 dollar shipping rate.
As long as you are good cutting scales, I can drop some stuff your way quicker .

Okay - that's fine

I'd like some green stain oak of the same 6x2x2 knife block thickness, too, if possible

Like that piece in picture 2, is that white rot on the left? Kind of looks like 'Snakewood', just need to color it.

I don't reckon I have any photinia but I recall somebody. I think @TimR was the last photinia seller I recall.
If you want to try a straight trade, I would definitely ship you this wood package after we get it figured out and you can send me a sharp piece of metal with some of your local lumber stuck on it. Will not expect the sharp immediately. You likely don't have an inventory quite as deep as mine... :lol2:

I just remembered I had these two pieces stashed out back on the shelves. They should be dry by now. I will also show you some off cuts from RJs stuff when I get through. I believe it will be more straight pinks.
