Gary and I are bartering agate for an agate custom call. He sends me the goods and I make a custom agate pot call for him...

I don't think I've ever seen a pot call or any kind of call made out of agate.

Not so much like this...but more like a regular pot call.

**Edit** Just so everyone is clear...I did not make that one. But I am certainly going to try to make one similar to it.

Brazilian agate used to come in balls...raw rock. Then, Brazil passed a law that forbids shipping raw agate. It must be slabbed and polished in Brazil, then sold as polished, finished slabs. A "value added" thing. I have both polished slabs and older slabs cut here from balls and unpolished. I was thinking a polished slab wouldn't work but I see you have on in use. Here's what I have. What do you want? Gary

These next two are unpolished, backlit.

I also have lots of other stuff slabbed as well. This box is Florida coral, and coastal plains flint, none of it polished but I bet it would squeak good. I wet the piece in my hand to see the color.

Here's another box of some odds and ends. The round grey one is Harrison Co. IN flint. I acquired all of this material for flintknapping. My shoulder is shot and I can't knap anymore so I'd trade any of this. Gary

Holy cow...those are some good looking slices!!
Well, the polished ones will work for sure. I'm getting some etching paste to do the usable area. I really like the coral looks!
I'm not sure about the flint? I have never held some in my hands, so I don't know if it'll work well....

Somebody on here posted pot calls made from agate a while back and I was fascinated then as I am now!

I wet that piece with water to show the detail. Look at the little circles with a dot in the middle. Those circles are individual polyps. Each is an individual animal, or was an animal. I'll send you that one. The color and patina are from cooking it. If you were to chip off some flakes it is high gloss white inside and translucent. Maybe you should take up flintknapping. It would be a whole new world. Gary

Got the box of goodies Gary. I love em. Thank you. The unpolished ones are perfect!

DAMN!!! We can say that here - every once in a while right? Nice one Marc

Oh, I didn't make that. But the agate I just got from Gary will be used for making some similar to it...

We use coral for knife handles, a lot of it dyed different colors. I have some small stuff but it is only big enough for folding knives. Nice stuff!

The coral slab I sent you is silicified and hundreds of thousands if not millions of years old. Some coral is agatized and is translucent. Yours is silicified and opaque. It comes from all over FL but mostly from the Tampa Bay area. Gary
