@Cliff. And I have been discussing some box elder blanks in 6/4. I am pricing an lfrb at 60 dollars shipped for as much as I can get in the box. Pictures will be posted as we go. 16397688605575247690607890921674.jpg 16397689243808643181193668533283.jpg 16397689404583668942907338182428.jpg 16397689912136318920141058383379.jpg
These are samples of the figure. I have a large chunk or 3 of curly. I have a couple slabs with crotch feathers. If I were to use a game box, likely I would try to pack a crotch feather cut 12 x 23.5 and a curly section cut as close to 12x23.5 or 2 sections of curly to equal 23.5 length. What you use them for may affect how I cut...
The pieces will be cut and planed to 1.5 inches to fit into the box. I will take pictures of actual blocks before packing to get your approval
Trades are accepted in extenuating circumstances.

Thanks very much Frank.
Such nice wood-- I remember the curly egg you turned.

For my use, that crotch feather is the very tops. "It's the berries!"

Your plan for that plus curly in gamebox sounds great. Let's cut to fit that.

What I do with the 6/4 is cut out a block 3x4". To get the most figure in that face grain. So, that feather is super for me.

Thank you! Cliff

So cutting just feathers around 6 inches wide would work, correct? That way, I might be able to load 2 feathers in the box and the curly, I will try to maximize the yield as well. The 23 1/2 length is something you can work around then?

Yes, that 6" width works just fine. I don't want to increase the waste or anything, or your side. What works and what fits, is good.
And yes, 23.5", that's good too.

I only cut this box elder for feather and such. These are branches. The main trunk is my fun piece. I had to cut the trunk into thirds to mill it. It is still waiting for my procrastination special...

Here are several crotch figure pieces. I have yet to cut up the curly. These pieces are set up to cut at 6 inch wide and 12 and 11.5 for the first 2 and 23.5 long for the last one. Currently they are oversized. If these work for you, I will start on the curly and try to have it set to ship by Tuesday. I have the day off tuesday.

I left a little room to trim on all pieces... thereare at least 18 pcs of 3 inch x 4 inch worth of curly. But I had to use smaller chunks not 12x12 or anything that big.

Will be watching to see the end product for sure! I love seeing what can be, out of what was a tree in someone's back yard.
By the way, the curl is the buttress area of the stump. You know, the part they always grind up in the yard clearing business. Even the oak buttress areas I have cut, have had neat grain patterns.

Thanks for telling me about that buttress area that's super interesting. Earlier I was reading an interesting article about the compression in that area. Where the roots sweep down to horizontal. I didn't know it had a name.
Hey, UPS just dropped the package, it's here. I get to dig into it later, thanks.
