I recently found a local woman who had a few of these very rare large diameter logs of chrysanthemum vine. There was some interest regarding it before, but I didn't have much and wanted to trade what I had. The pieces below are up for grabs. It will be cut into smaller slices. I won't cut anything longer than feet two due to shipping internationally. I will need to remove the bark with a steel brush angle grinder pad before shipping and seal it up with polyurethane as well. Not 100% sure how to sell it due to the shape. I am thinking by weight? Maybe 12$ per kg (2.2lbs). That would mirror what I pay for it here, but I am going to have to eyeball the weight when cut. I do not have a moisture reader, so I am not 100% how dry they are either, but they turn quite dark when dried as you can see in the carved examples below. I might be slow to fill orders as I have quite a lot going on at work for the next few months, but I will do it as I can.

I might be interested in a piece of it. Any idea how much a 1ft piece will weigh?

Bill
They would all be a bit different, but judging by it. I think 1 ft of most of them would be 2-3kg. Maybe less, but I doubt more.

I don't 100% know how much shipping will cost, but like the last thread I posted, I would do boat shipping for a month or slow airmail. The last piece I sent Bhatleberg about two weeks ago costed 19$ to ship this method, but it was a smaller diameter 6cm (?) lighter piece about a foot and a half long. I would say 20$-35$ for most people.

Byron,

Per your dimensions above 8-14 cm is about 3-5 inches? Am I correct in that size?
Yes, 3.14-5.5 inches. You can see how much the vine bulges and changes as it grows, so there is no exact size I can give apart from weight and length.

So, you’re saying a 1 foot piece weighs around 2 kg? That would be around $25 (not exact) and then the shipping would be in the neighborhood of an additional $30? (Again, not exact) If that is correct, then the cost would be in the neighborhood of $55 for 1 piece, 1 foot long? Would shipping per person improve if it were crated with other orders and res hipped when it gets here?
Just trying to get a handle on what we are talking about here.

I think if you prepared for that price, you'd have no surprises, but I doubt a 1ft chunk will actually be that. I'm just shooting high to avoid surprises. I'll cut a chunk off the biggest one to get a more clear indication of it. I talked to some people before about shipping it bulk and then reshipping it, but the issue is shipping in the States tends to be quite expensive so it would end up costing more. I did a lot of research previously on shipping and this was the cheapest option I could come up with. I'm sorry if that makes it prohibitive.

I'm not sure but I think your math might be off as it's $25 per kg so 2 kg would be $50 plus shipping (again trying to avoid possible surprises)

Mark, we can do a trade if you'd rather. I discussed getting some longer cuts of that mamee apple before. I'd also trade for longer straight grained sea grape. Just a thought.
Hey Bryan

Sounds great I remember now. I will cut some pieces of mammee today and post them. Is it ok is they are just under 24” inches in length to fit in priority box
