I have 9 Lilac pen blanks I would like to get rid of. They are not dry, the wood was cut probably a year ago, but the blanks were cut last week. Some cracking, bug holes, inclusions etc. Some of the blanks did not make quite 3/4"×3/4". I think they would make cool pens, but I don't have the experience to do them, as they will need some filling etc. Cool purple coloring!
I would like $16.00 plus shipping

Cool colors in those. I wonder how much they will darken with time. Anyone here had any experience with this wood?

I've worked with lilac - have done a few pens in lilac, and one or two in lilac burl. Applying a finish will darken it a little. UV exposure over time will cause the colors to eventually fade more to brown. Lilac is a wonderful wood to turn.

Don't have pictures of one I've done in straight grained lilac, but here's one I did in lilac burl (stabilized). The colors in this haven't really faded, but my wife keeps it in a tray and not exposed to light when it's not in use, plus being stabilized can help slow the color fade sometimes.

I agree with Sprung. Nice dense wood. Easy to turn. But unfortunately, like the red in box elder, the color eventually fades to a light brown.

To add to what others have said, Lilac is great to work with. Similar in density and machining characteristics to Olivewood. Sharp tools are required to get a good finish and prevent chipping, especially on pieces with wild grain or with cracks in it already. It smells fantastic as well, especially when fresh cut. The purple color isn't long-lived after exposure to air and sunlight.

@Lou Currier I just checked into the shipping, and they are too heavy for first class. I can take a couple out and we can come up with a price? Up to you...
    Thanks!

Pass for now, don’t really need them. They were on the nice to have list.
