What kind of wood is the one your measuring here?

Are you talking about the square piece? It’s from https://www.curlymaplewood.com/
I’m pretty sure it is roasted but not sure of the species. They only sell a few different ones. I’ll look at the website tonight and try to identify it.

It's the more rectangular one that looks more like Burl. Very soft wood though.

I assumed that was a redwood burl. The guy I got that from was a gallery turner and only worked with nice stuff.
That's probably right. I'm working a piece of it and it cuts like butter. A lot of dust though. I'll post pic in couple days.
@Brandon Sloan here are couple things I made with cutoffs. A desk set pen & paperclip holder from the Redwood burl. Finished with lacquer since wood was sooo soft. A pen cup from curly redwood? Finished with Hut clear coat.
