That could work if it’s high character or on the dark side, especially if you have a board or two as wellHave a bunch of Ziricote spindle stock if that interests you at all.
Have probably (30) of this spindle stock in Ziricote. 1.5” sq x 31” for $30/each plus shipping. It’s brown with black streaks when dry, but I put a little water on one and shows how dark it gets in a hurry, so depends on the finish you choose. That could work if it’s high character or on the dark side, especially if you have a board or two as well
If you are willing to pay shipping from Austria, then I can help. I have some sources from which I regularly get high quality wood. It’s just gonna be pricey.Anyone have ebony alternatives? Going for near black without requiring so much stain it loses the natural beauty.
Have you considered african blackwood? You need pieces 2" square?Anyone have ebony alternatives? Going for near black without requiring so much stain it loses the natural beauty.
That would be a solid alternative. 2” square worksHave you considered african blackwood? You need pieces 2" square?

A two square spindle blank would be around 70 because of size (not including the price of the wood) you could add more into the same box but would end up at needing to reduce weight to keep it there. You will have more luck looking in the US.Define pricey lol

Check out Got Wood? LLC (turningblanks.net). They have kiln dried macassar ebony blanks and may have other species as well. Great company for affordable turning stock. I have gone to them several times and found what I needed.
Wow. I know that I’m far away but I was sorely tempted for the camphor burl in the one of a kind section. That’s some good stuff.Just tried that web address and it's not functioning apparently.
Edit: I guess you have to use the whole address. www.turningblanks.net
