I'm a little late getting going with the milling this spring. I find milling in the winter to be a uphill battle but I usually get started by late March. I don't mill much in the summer heat either, spring and fall are my favorite times. This is a log from one of our sugar maples that up rooted in a storm last summer. It was pretty much growing on solid ledge so the root were pretty shallow. I'm going to get some pretty good quality boards before I get into the dark heart wood. It's got some small dark streaks that make it at least a little interesting. I believe the butt log will have a little curly or blister figure and I know it will have tap holes from being used for syrup production.
