If you’ve been following along I’ve got all the wormy sycamore out, quite a few Spalted slabs, now I’m moving into the big guy.

About 36” in diameter, southeast Louisiana, any response is appreciated!

I'm gonna take a guess and say pecan, because it looks very similar to some I have been working with recently...

All the limbs do have that classic dark center of pecan, but the main trunk doesn’t. Is that normal?

And, what have you gotten done if I have NOT been following along?

I did alot of sampling last week to prioritize what I wanted since it will all be trashed next week. But I know where the good stuff is now...

Some A-hole sliced all the sycamore trunk into 2-3 foot rounds, pissed me off. I was able to get some of the wormy parts from the trunk, after cutting out anything too rotten to salvage, It wasn't much. However I did get quite a few of the bigger branches that were wormy and still solid as a rock, tons of spalting. Havent milled those yet, about 10" long 9-10" wide.

Ive kinda been focusing on getting as much of the med-small stuff off plant proprery as I can, mill later. I did mill a few medium chunks just to see, better than I hoped for!

So from here im going to try to slab as much of that big pecan in place as I can and haul it out. I think I can pull that off this weekend if the weather cooperates.

Brody, looks like work also!! be careful. nice haul though!!
It’s defiantly not easy, actually safer than normal chainsaw work. No kickback, nearly impossible for a broken chain to hit you, no falling trees, its a walk in the park...
