Spring is here and the flowers are out. The challenge this month is to make something related to flowers. It could be a bud vase, big vase, something shaped like a flower, or something decorated with flowers. Just get to it and post a picture before June 15. Let’s hope for a few more entries this time.

10 “ Vase body made with Mistletoe Maple and an 8” glass vase insert.
Mistletoe (MT)was growing on this branch. As a Parasite MT attached and lives off host tree. You can see some brown spots at base which is from the MT. IMG_5598.jpeg IMG_5599.jpeg

Does the inside of this big (12.25 inch diameter) Norfolk Island Pine bowl qualify as a flower? It’s in progress—gardener who does my chain saw work wanted a big tortilla bowl! Still needs a finish—after I recover from resolving all the tear out!

There’s a Hunter carbide bit inside right now that I had lost but found when cleaning up. Helps to use that when hogging out large quantities of wood.

That works for me. I have made a few things with monkey puzzle to get the same look. It is really cool.

A friend gave me an old growth Red Oak 2 x 4 (2.25 x 3.5”) from a hog enclosure(?) on an OLD Illinois farm. No, doesn’t smell like hog s*it! Thank goodness.

Made a set of weed pots.

2x4 was about 40” long, so made these 8,10 and 12”. Put a dab of Danish Oil on the turned part.

I think I read “A weed is just a flower growing in the wrong place”. So, this is my “flower” entry.
Thanks for putting the challenge together @Jason Goodrich

Those look great. They look like oak. I have seen weed pots like this before and wanted to make some, but all the old fence posts around here are cedar and way to soft to turn well.

Thanks Jason. Yes, I edited the post. They are Red Oak. 👍

We are getting short on time for this one. I have mine, I just need to take pictures. There has to be some inspiration out there after the AAW symposium.

Ambrosia maple with some spalting. I left some of the natural edge and a worm hole in it as well, then dyed it yellow to brighten it up for the theme of this challenge 🌻

I made this little hollow form just to try doing some imitation Japanese lacquer after seeing it at the AAW symposium. It is alcohol die and friction polish. The effect was good, but the red color is not quite right.
