Detroit Agate, aka Motor City Agate, aka Fordite…

After the first try, I gained enough confidence to “turn” my remaining Fordite. Done with the belt sander and 80 grit to size and then through the micro mesh grits. Only finish is Ren Wax. I had 2 blanks and completed the 2 Sierra style pens from one.

And I CA glued a blank to my fingers only once.

Nicely done, Tom! I think you've convinced me to give mine a go sometime soon. Though I think I want to use mine in a custom/kitless pen.

And I CA glued a blank to my fingers only once.

Are you really a turner if you don't do that on occasion? :lol2:

Do it, Matt. But I don’t recommend leaving the skin from your fingers on the sanding belt. Too bad the CA was on the other hand, so It didn’t sand off.

Do it, Matt.

Hopefully I'll be back in the shop soon. It's been since about May that I've really done anything in the shop. I've been itching to do some custom pens - haven't done one of those since before we moved almost 2 years ago.

But I don’t recommend leave the skin from your fingers on the sanding belt.

Done that too. That is never pleasant. :blush-33:

Nice looking pens. Any story behind the Fordite (I.e. like paint colors for Dodge Cobras)?

Those are very cool! However, if I stare at them for too long I get this feeling of having tread warily past the sign post ahead that says you've entered, The Twilight Zone!
