This is a box for a friend to send to her daughter's foreign exchange host family in Italy. Redwood Burl with a top of Maple Burl. The Maple was cut from trees in Chico, Ca. I have made a friend who sells me a little of this occasionally and it finishes really nice! this guy used to mill trees and he said " I have more wood than I will ever need. come on by and we can work something out". Nice walnut and Maple. I try to not go too often!! I do have him making boxes for a show we will do together in Paradise in late April.
Remember, I am always looking for figured wood for boxes.[attachment=3529][attachment=3530][attachment=3532]

VERY cool box! Hard to tell how big it is, so... how big is it? I really like the balance between the light & dark woods.

The size of the new box is about 8" x 5" x 5". Watco Danish oil.

Robert that's some really excellent work. I'm glad it's you representing American craftsmanship to the Italian family and not me. Great on wood selection and execution and everything. It looks very . . . . rich. If it were food a person could probably only eat a couple of bites!

I'm sure it'll please those discerning Italian eyes.

I think you may be on to something! This whole website thing is just a ruse to lure us in and seperate us from our stash... I'm sleeping next to my wood pile tonight just in case!:shok:

  13. Very nice box. Now why can't I ever find wood with that kind of figure and cut so it is suitable to use for boxes?
