Jumping in to start the next challenge. There is a lot that can be done with multi axis turning and it has been a while since we last had it as a challenge. It is the time of year to get to work on ornaments, so that is a good idea for a project. Hopefully we also see an ornament exchange set up soon.

We will go through the end of November on this one. Post your picture by 11/30. I don’t recommend waiting until Thanksgiving weekend, but maybe that will give some time for a few extra last minute entries.

Oh lordy.... gotta study up on this one, but I'm in! 🤔

First challenge I've gotten to do in more than a year now, I've been so excited! Ha ha, it's the little things. Ornament exchange sounds fun!

My better half was getting ready for church this morning and found that the refill for her lint roller would not fit on the handle she had. So I headed out to the shop and threw this together. I hope this meets the criteria of an off-center turning...

Wood is ash - from a tree that stood in front of my daughter's house when she lived in Mukwonago, WI. Finish is a home made friction polish made with beeswax, mineral oil and diatomaceous earth. It took me about 45 minutes and I was in a hurry.

Including a couple pics of the piece on the lathe - I roughed it out between centers and then marked offsets for the drive center and the tailstock and then turned the handle between centers and parted off. I then mounted it centered in a chuck and turned the shaft for the roller refill. Finally turned a very shallow cap to fit over the end and drilled a hole for a screw to hold it.

Too much going on recently. I think the ornament exchange has been good though. I think we should extend this challenge another month.

Late, just forgot about the deadline. I'm pretty sure I saw this idea somewhere on this forum, but don't remember for sure or who posted. At any rate, my bride wanted a turned ornament and this had been in the back of my mind since seeing it so thought I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Some of Kevin's FBE, stabilized so hopefully the color will hold long term. Spray-on lacquer finish.

I attempted a multi axis turning about a month ago and it was bad enough I just tossed it. Then the holidays and cold weather took hold. I can't foresee getting time to do another turning for about a month due to company coming in from outta state for an extended stay.

Is the monthly challenge dying a slow death View attachment 266312
I don't think so...

We hit against the ornament exchange, then Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. I'd forgotten about until your and Spinartists' posts.

I know that there have been quite a few turners who have joined in the last few months, along with those who have been active in the challenges, and I think it is worth it to try another time or two.

I don't know what is best for this challenge with only two entries. Either vote a winner from the two, or tag everybody and publicize giving a couple more weeks. I'd be willing to brave the cold and get something done if the decision is made to try for more entries in this one.

I'd vote for rebooting this multi-axis challenge anew for Jan/Feb.I'd like to see what everyone comes up with.

There are a lot of ideas from the previous multi-axis challenge, and I believe there were a bunch of links posted with "how to" videos and articles.
