Truth be told, I used 1/4" because that's what was in the wood rack. LOL. As for cleaning recommendations. I will be putting a finish on this of my cutting board finish which is food safe and will seal the wood. A general wiping of the crumbs should be sufficient but if not, the cutting board coating will protect it enough that you can wash it with light soap and water. You may have to re-apply the cutting board coating though.
I was asking, should we use quarter sawn stock to limit wood movement?

You could, but I don't think it's imperative. It's a pretty small piece to be concerned about movement.

Looked like you could have just flipped top for bottom. Wonder if you would lose sound quality if you had used an aluminite flooring finish. Was wondering as the flooring finishes are often harder and take more wear. Nice job. Mom would likely complain as your laser design could have a pentagram feel to it.
