Have you ever attempted a woodworking project that you really shouldn’t have? How did it turn out?

That question required some thinking. If it was something I shouldn't have done in the first place it probably isn't around any longer so I had to try to remember stuff that isn't here. And I really can't think of anything. But maybe along this line of thinking, I'm glad I had the foresight to not try to build the roof over my deck by myself. There's no way I could have done that - both physically and skillfully. We would not have been happy with the result if I had tried to do it on my own. Much better to pay for someone who knew what they were doing and had the right tools and skills.

Thinking i needed a lathe, damn thing was only good for collecting dust. Finally I gave up on it and traded to my mill guy. It was a good choice. Does the same for him, just a different color of dust.

I grew up in Tacoma, WA, and as a teenager I was really into climbing tall Douglas Fir trees. I would free climb probably at least 75 feet up. I decided I wanted to build a wood platform at that height, so grabbed what was probably a half sheet of plywood and hauled it up. I recall it was not an easy task, but finally was able to get it into place, and nail it onto the branches. In retrospect decades later, my guardian angels were obviously on overtime that day on my behalf! Chuck

Let's see... Yup. How bout an early eyeglass stand that required routing a notch in a 1/2 inch dowel... Yep. Dowel pieces everywhere. Never did finish that. The cases are still in Daddy's shop as shelving units.

There is this one piece of oak or maybe it was elm - don't remember. Decided to make a tall vase out of a section with bark edge. But that darned thing flew out of the chuck five times before I said enough was enough. Never could find out why it would fly out. Odd thing is that I have mounted it in another chuck, just to eventually see if I could finish it. Sure wish I had my old football uniform for when I try again!
