Can someone point me to a table or chart that lists north American hardwoods by weight per cubic foot? I had such a list bookmarked on my old laptop that fried a few years ago and haven't been able to find it.

Also, the reason I want to find it is to see where Bois d' Arc comes in as to weight against other species. I know it isn't the heaviest but I forget which species are above it. I know that at about 12% MC it weighs roughly 50 pounds ft³. I need a chart that shows weight by MC but could get by with any chart that shows the weight of the major species even without MC ranges. What's bad is there's probably one right here on the site somewhere but if so I can't find it.

I use the woodweb calc's all the time, but I need a chart with species listed in order of weight etc.

Ah! that table you linked on the eng toolbox might do the trick . . .

It has post oak, hickory, and osage all at 64 so I guess osage cannot be said to solely be the heaviest but there are none heavier. Thanks for the link.

:thanx2:

If you have an Android tablet or smart phone, here's an app that works great. It uses the length of the log, with the diameter of the small end. Then it calculates the diameter of the big end. If you have an odd shaped log, or a bent log, and enough experience, you'll be able to do your own deduction for the percentage to deduct or add to the estimated weight and estimated BFT in the log.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.boardcalc.sawlogcalcpersonal&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5ib2FyZGNhbGMuc2F3bG9nY2FsY3BlcnNvbmFsIl0.

I've used the free version for a while now and when I get around to it, I'm going to buy the paid version. It's only $2.99 and it lets you do a few things the free version doesn't. The free version only keeps one tally, it starts over whenever you restart the app or start a new tally. The paid version also exports the tally to email or a text message. Average weights for 100 N. American trees are included in both versions. Both also let you make a frequently used list of the trees in your area. Log rules include Doyle, Scribner and International 1/4 inch.

If I didn't have a tablet or smart phone, I'd buy a used one to run this app. I've extracted the app on my smartphone and was able to export it to my tablet that isn't supported on Google Play. The free app runs fine on both the tablet and phone.

Well, Kevin I hope you found what you needed. I found some interesting info. I think I saw African Blackwood was # 1 on weigh. To tell you the truth, when I saw the title of this post it scared me a little. I thought you were going to put us on a diet. I'm on the same diet as that new fellow Termite, down to two trees a day. No desert. Well maybe a little cherry here and there. :rotflmao3:

I did find the info I was looking for but not a of it and no chart. I am aware of most if not all of the calculator links but I comprehensive chart is what I'l after and I haven't really found one with most of the major species shown in a table format.

Re: diet I avoid that. When the first 3 out of 4 letters spell "die" it can't be good. :sarcastic:
