I don't know the first thing about these things, but I've wanted one for a good while now, just because.....

I've been looking at several of them but so far I can't figure out a way to monetize the output for my shop so it'd just be a really expensive toy. Although my son keeps talking about it so maybe we'll start out with something small....

I have been looking at one that works on my old shark cnc. There is an article in the AAW magazine this month of a guy who prints out custom chuck jaws for odd shaped pieces that he turns.

Up until a short time ago I had absolutely no idea as to what I would even make with one, but I wanted one.
I came upon a site called "enabling the future" where you make prosthetic fingers, hands and arms for children. With the way kids grow you can't ideally buy them the $50,000 special every year so these folks make what they need on a 3D printer and the kids get a new one as they outgrow them.
I think it would be very cool to do, plus it justifies me buying a new toy.
I need to research it a bunch more before I do anything and am pretty much just brainstorming right now, but was looking for input on what all a guy even needs for one of these things.

Allan I don't have one but we do at work. All I know about it is it takes a LONG time to make something... We use it for conceptual stuff and to make little one off parts for testing. Its cool but like watching paint dry when it's running.

You must be thinking of Mike's grandson.

For Mike, "recent" is reed on papyrus... and quills on parchment downright cutting edge.

Well I researched them a good bit and bounced back and forth between all the info, pricing, shipping and how much I would realistically be using it. I contacted the E-nable people on a couple models and what would work for printing the parts for their hands and they say that these ones would work just fine and they even have a couple members that own them that I've talked with, so that's a good thing for Allan.
There are quite a few printers exactly alike, some made by Anet and some clones, but made in the same facility it sounds like to me. The biggest challenge was finding a seller/distributor that is halfway decent to work with and not jerk you around.
The funny part is that I ordered my printer day before yesterday and now get on here to post and happen to hit your link and it's the exact machine and the exact seller.
On a good note, there is a FB page just for this printer and so there is all kinds folks to ask all the crap that I don't know.
