Hi everyone. Been lurking here on & off for quite a while. Looks like a great site.

I've been involved with woodworking for 38+ years in one form or another, including too many years as a professional particle board pusher, but my soul could only take so much damage and pulled me back to the trees & the old styles of handwork. Having moved out into the Jersey Highlands (the mountains, not the town by the shore) and heating my house with a wood burning stove, I started discovering the gems in the wood pile that I just couldn't put in the fire. Over the past 17 years of that I've progressed into using my own lumber "yard", as I live in the woods, more than anything when I need wood. This became a discovery of the joy of working green wood in various ways and I've become a spoon & bowl carver that has really energized my wood junkie nature, trying to get all kinds of different woods for carving.
Teaching my young son about the trees & plants, woodwork and recently bowl carving, we've gotten interested in collecting all the different kinds of woods, at least the North American varieties for now and doing a carved item of each one.

Some of my work so far. These are done entirely with hand tools; Carving Axe, Adze, Drawknife, Gouges etc.

Howdy Kyle, welcome to the club....

I love the pictures of the stuff you made. But in the future please upload them directly to the site. It's easy, simple, and part of our rules.
    Thanks.

Apologies, those were already sized and ready on Flickr and I'm used to a couple other forums that prefer everyone using a hosting sight to save space on the server. Guess I should have read the site rules before my first post.

Appreciate the warm welcome from everyone and kind words regarding the carvings... Glad to see I've got some handtool brethren and a few close-ish neighbors too.

Right on. The problem with 3rd party hosting, is when the pics are deleted or something like photobucket did, and start charging a stupidly high fee for hosting images.
Then our posts would look real useless like this....

    Thanks again.

Fantastic work with hand tools. I always admire work that's produced by hand. Your work is remarkable and it's great to see you are passing to your son. Welcome from Taunton Massachusetts hope you enjoy the site
