Hello everyone

I got a couple of veneers sold to me as olive by a guy, and they smell like olive.
However
1) they look different to me than olive, like fibrous and porous
2) the colour is also more gray-ish than usual olive
3) they show higher chatoyance (PZC~13÷16) than samples from other 6 sources (PZC~6÷9)

Unfortunately (obviously) there is no endgrain to be seen... so only face grain pics:

Any idea what it could be? Is there anything else that smells like olive?
Thanks in advance :)

'European olive ash' is simply 'European ash' with an 'olive' look, often having dark swirling contrasting lines and also can smell like olive. 'Olive' is in the ash family, visa versa....Oleaceae

The olive smell can occur in several species, here, I see it in 'White ash'. Think Paul has some on his site.

@Mr. Peet
I dug out a piece of olive ash from another source, and it looks and smells exactly like mistery wood! That is, they both smell like olive, but not as intensely as some proper olive wood.

So, thank you!
