@FranklinWorkshops came up with a great idea and I said I would head this up. The basic idea is someone has books, magazines, DVD's they are willing to loan out, post them here. If someone has an inerest in seeing them, they say so. Receiver pays shipping to lender. When the receiver is done, they either ship it back or pass it on to someone else. If you loan something out and have a time frame for getting your materials back you need to state that in your offering post. I will keep track of who has what. If material is damaged in your possession you are responsible for making it up to the lender. I think this is a great way for us to share knowledge and resources! Did I forget anything Larry? Sounds like a good plan to me. I'll list some DVD's tomorrow. I also have some furniture construction plans with measured drawings I will loan out.
Just so everyone is clear, this is a lending library of sorts. I will continue to list books that I want to give away on another thread. Hopefully, this will prompt a lot of WB members to loan out great resource materials.

Just want to add you might look into media mail. It’s typically the cheapest way to ship books etc.

Right. I always use Media Mail for books but I'll have to check about DVDs. I know magazines cannot go as media mail because they contain advertising.

Well, she's wrong. Here is the link to the official USPS Media Mail requirements. Nothing in there about "for educational books only". https://about.usps.com/notices/not121/not121_tech.htm

My PO lady, a very nice young woman, confirmed my use of it when I started giving away books last month. And, I just read on that link that DVD's can also go by media mail so I'll be sending them under that rate which is cheaper than first class rates.

They are taking it by their interpretation of that first sentence. "Media Mail shipping is a cost-effective way to send educational materials. "

I spoke wrong by saying "for educational books only" and should have said "for educational media only"

In the past I've shipped books, i.e. Louis L'Amour westerns, by media but they say nope to that now

I've given away and shipped 42 books so far and all were shipped by media mail and my PO knows exactly what I'm shipping. And since when has Louis L'Amour westerns not be educational?

I shipped four books today and a new substitute postman was there. I told him about the debate on what media mail includes and told him I was shipping four woodworking books to a guy in CO. He said media mail is the best rate for that. Cost me $6 to ship four heavy books 1800 miles. So our PA postal people either don't know what your Postal person does or don't care or both. Or your postal person has made up her own rules. That's not unheard of in the government.

Haha I just noticed a sign in our PO that says media mail is subject to inspection. Hmm maybe it’s a Texas thing Barry @Wildthings

Last time I shipped some books to my brother in CO the Nazi said they could open them to inspect them. I told her to make durn sure she didn't damage them! They were history books so I told her, The White Indian series by Donald Clayton Porter
