I watched a video of a guy making pot calls, and he inlaid a Louisiana state quarter with a turkey on it. Thought it was a cool addition, so looking for similiar items. But....searching for turkey coins gives me the country....not the bird!
Anybody know of a source for such things?
Thanks!

As far as I can find, other than a few tokens, the sacagawea dollar with turkey, wolf, and turtle; and the Louisiana quarter are the only coins here in the us with a turkey. Excepting of course, everyone's least favorite person. That would be another turkey to them...

Looks like the LA state quarter is my best bet.
Will have to try a regular one before I order.
Thanks all!

My sister in-law when she worked at the bank would have ppl come in, and buy $25-100 in a coin type of choice, quarter, penny, etc, and then search through them all for specific ones. When done hand what was left back to return the cash remaining or deposit into account, lol.

Raided my piggy bank....found 4 LA quarters with turkeys!
Also, ND, SD, AK with wildlife......and one with Glacier NP.
That will be for my own!

Here's 1st try....... IMG_20210915_155321.jpg
Not glued in yet, just going for the fit. Need to sand and finish, then glue it all together.

In that photo, look at the pot outside of the holes.
There's little 'dents' in a pattern that I don't think I caused. Something in the grain of the wood? It can be felt, don't know if it will sand out or not. I'm ok either way......just more character if it doesn't.

I see that now. I thought it was some kind of texturing tool at first glance.

The coin looks cool! I’ve created those same patterns by moving my tool across the wood too quickly while the lathe wasn’t spinning fast enough. I fixed it by speeding up the lathe and moving slower.

Thanks!
That's possible....I may have had the speed down because of the way I had it mounted.
Did you let it like that or turn it out?

I turn it out because it's easier than sanding it out.

I don't think I have enough thickness to turn it out, I'll sand it a bit and go from there.
Something to learn from and watch for in the future!

If it is not sanded down yet, you might apply a water based stain, (they sit kinda on top of the wood) then sand or lightly true the call and highlight the pattern. If you dont like it, sand a little deeper and it's gone.
Now a disclaimer. I dont turn pot calls. I just fixed a lot of oopsies in my years of woodworking. This application may not help you.

Are you using a round nosed tool?
Try switching to a flat edge.

Using carbide tools.

Little work with turning and sanding got it cleaned up.
Which is good.....I guess.
It did add some character to the piece though.
I'm gonna quit and call it good now.....before I mess it up!
