I have bought and sold a couple. A good friend wanted to turn one- he still has pitch on walls and ceiling, took forever to stop stuff sticking to my trailer bed. I would avoid fresh spring cut...

This is the only remaining burl from a hoard I picked up awhile ago, told it is spruce. It’s years dried and ready to break down but too big/heavy to ship to FL as is, even if trimmed the waste from the ends and cut through the pith would still be monster at abt 26x26x18”+. How would you cut it to meet your needs and make shipping within reason?

John,
I'm very interested. Do you think it makes sense to trim the waste off of both ends and then split it lengthwise through the pith? It would probably need to be shipped in 2 boxes. If you think that would work, what would it cost in total?

Tim,
How bout you draw some lines on the pics where you ideally want it cut, whatever is left I will use for production blanks. Hope to get to it and others soon now that the warmer weather is here. We can work out costs after we see what the burl looks like once cut and weigh it.

John.
I don't know how to use the drawing feature on my computer. I'd like to get 1 or 2 larger burls to turn hollow forms. It sounds like you have some projects in mind for some of this. You should get what you want out of it for your projects. I'm very creative when it comes to visualizing pieces out of odd chunks of wood.

Haven’t cut it yet but here’s a UPS estimate for size 18x18x24, about the dims of either piece 1 or 2 as shown at 100 lbs. Will ship as is if you approve or may I suggest you determine what size you would like and how oriented with the grain. Will cut to your specs to save lots on shipping. Thoughts?

John,
I can't handle that kind of cost. Ideally, I'd like to get 2 pieces that are about 8 x 8 x 12 with the grain running the length of the blank.

Can do Tim, will get to it soon. Snow has melted away but the back yard where I work is still very soggy.

Hope these make you smile and gotta love the smell. Will ship the least expensive USPS or UPS. Can calculate est shipping from 03810 in a 12Wx 19L x 14”H box at 45 lbs. $120 cash or check only plus shipping.
