Got the itch to make some more grips after making the purpleheart 1911 and revolver sets. Pulled out some blanks I've had for several years and went for it. I purchased/traded for the blanks on here a while back. The blue set is curly and burl horse chestnut (dyed and stabilized), the orange set is box elder burl (dyed and stabilized), and the black set is buckeye burl that has been stabilized Thought the orange set would be my favorite, but i think I'm leaning towards the blue/turquoise set. For now, I'm planning on keeping these on my 1911's as they are probably my 3 most favorite sets I've made to date.

I've tweaked my grip making process some, which has saved me time and given me even more consistent results. All 3 are finished with multiple coats of Tru-oil. Comments and critiques are welcomed.

Edited post on 02/17/2026 to update wood species. I purchased/traded with @norman vandyke way back in 2016 and found the postings which included the wood species.

My vote is for the blue/turquoise. But the black set is a VERY close 2nd. All are truly outstanding! Chuck

Thanks all, seems most everyone I've shown them to has liked the blue set the best (and I'm not sure they are wrong :sarcastic:). I did update my original post to correct the wood species of the blue and orange set. I found the listing from @norman vandyke when I purchased/traded for them. Would love to get some more scales like this, but see he hasn't been on this forum since late 2023. He did a great job on these and offered them at extremely good prices.
