Another Toy I bought needs wood.....Looking for very Think bowl blanks

Along with what Steve said, you have immense woods all around you!!!! You can drive down the road, see a guy cleaning up his lot, stop, strike up the conversation, and all of the sudden your Miata truck is open with logs sticking out......you have great wood up there unlike Colorado where you have to really hunt for something.

And just reading your posts above, take a deep breath and jump out there...….I think You can strike up a conversation with a stranger!!!!!!!!!!!

another thought - check out the sawmills that operate around you. They almost always have logs that they culled out due to metal content, small size or severe reaction wood (sharply curved logs that grew at a slant on the hillside.) You can get those logs cheap and cut them into blanks you need. Those now go to firewood suppliers in my area.

Moonpie Creations is a cool dude! I like his videos too. :)
Ok, moon pie creations mean something different hereabouts. We have moon pie festivals and what not about them. Of course they are made just down the highway a bit. Just be shure to paddle faster when you hear that banjar music!

Look up YouTube videos on people dying guitars or drums. The same techniques can be used on woodturnings. I personally like using Chestnut Spirit Stains which is alcohol based dye/stain with shellac, but just about anything will work on maple since most are light colored.
I was watching video on that stuff the other day and it is my amazon shopping cart already!

Watched this earlier. What made him someone who stands for me is that he shows you is mistakes or at the least tells you about them most turners edit that stuff out and never mention it. I know, personally, I learn more from mistakes than anything else.

Hey I just wanted to thank you for the information you gave me about contacting local tree services, I sent out 3 emails to the companies based in my town and I got 2 responses. One of them has a small mill as well. This is so cool. The other guy told me that they come across all kinds of weird stuff and they usually burn it...smells like free to me! Thanks again.

If you're interested, I still have this piece of FBE for sale, the four smaller pieces have sold, but the bowl blank is still available. At it's thickest part it is about 7".

Let me know if you're interested and I can figure out shipping costs.

Thanks
