A few minutes ago I cranked open the oxygen side of my cutting torch and the line blew off the regulator body. It was LOUD. I figured it was a freak occurrence. I looked at the gauge and it was pegged. I figured it was wrong. That was mistake #1. So I grabbed some small hose clamps, cut the factory crimp off the end and clamped the hose back on with two clamps.
Mistake #2 - I cranked open the valve again and POP! this time the hose blew off the torch end and when it did it whipped into my right upper thigh leaving a serious bruise and severe stinging to the degree of about 10 red wasps all at once. For a few scary seconds I thought I had been injected with high pressure air and thought oh boy heart here it comes we're dead now. This time I realized the regulator dial was correct and the reg isn't working. If that hose had hit my extreme sensitive part just inches away I would still be rolling on the ground crying like a newborn.
Like I use to hear the training pilots tell the new pilots in training over my ICS during night flights- "trust your instruments!". Lesson learned. Off to the hardware store for a set of new regulators. :fit:
If you've never heard a hose blow off its much louder than a .22 and will get your attention for sure.
