Black Locust Basket Illusion Series #6

Final one in the series, at least for now, as it's the last of the forms I have turned. This series is all green turned and beaded black locust forms that are then embellished after drying. All feature design adaptations from Dat So La Lee (Washoe Tribe) baskets. Forgot to measure this one, but I think it's a little under 5" in both dimensions.

When I get a little time I will post pictures of all 6 together.

I think you should look for a museum (or a collector) that might want these for a display of Dat So La Lee's work. (Or, maybe you can't give them up!)

Thanks John. For now anyway, I'm just going to keep these. Already have a spot to display them.

This whole thing just started out as a one off experiment to see how I could cut beads on wet wood. Never originally intended this to be a "series", but things happen....

Definitely going to continue with small hollow forms, and eventually there will be more that could be included as part of the "series". Also feel the need to make a couple "life size" reproductions, but that will be quite the project as I'll make it/them out of 2 pieces. Will bead, burn and color the insides, join them together and repeat on the outside. I think that is a ways off though.

The immediate plan is to pick up a 3/32" beading tool and burning tip to use on small forms. Will give ~25% more rows to work with on the small forms and allow more detail (higher resolution) to be added. Will have to see how that will work on wet wood.

Be careful, it can be addicting! Be sure and ask if questions arise. That is the main reason I started doing tutorials and posting build threads. When I started, I found examples of BI pieces, but no real "how to" guides. Decided to just jump in and kind of developed my own methods. As others have mentioned, there are many ways/methods and everybody does it a little different.
