I watched this video last night of woodturning somewhere in the vacinity of Pakistan maybe, The turner sat on the floor, used a lathe and a compression fit on the headstock, along dead center and a hooked piece if metal rod that hooked onto the dead center. He turned the form, sanded it and then started applying the colors. They were like a candy bar that was burned into/onto the wood. He would polish it, then apply another color at least 8 times, ending in white. I saw him make the body, lid and then the base, but didn't see the finial being made. That was pretty normal, but what really peaked my interest was the carving of the design on the exterior.
