Pulled a blank off the shelf today and turned it into a bowl-shaped object. That blank happened to be cherry with a little bit of curl in it that @Eric Rorabaugh supplied last year. The cherry was a pleasure to turn and always looks so nice with an oil finish.

Good looking piece, now you have to sign it.

Really like the shape, a little ring around the top and a well-defined bottom makes it look great. Can't go wrong with cherry.

I just use a sharpie. My hand writing is bad as well, doesnt matter, sign it.

A signature is almost like artistry. I'm not in that space yet.

How are these things commonly signed? Woodburning pen? My handwriting is atrocious.
Sweet bowl! The nice thing about cherry is it will just get better looking over time as the color deepens. I sign usually with a burner, My handwriting is terrible too, But after some practice on scrap, I have managed to make a signature similar to a 2nd grader :sarcastic:

Great looking bowl!

Before I had a woodburner, I used a Pigma Micron 08 pen. They are archival ink pens. Always before finish. Only used a signature a few times on early items, but now use stylized initials along with year and common wood name. To me, my signature just seemed large and overbearing on the bottom of pieces.

I think it is important to sign/initial/make your mark on everything you take the time to create along with the year. May not seem like a big deal now, but after a few years it is nice to have that info. Will also be a reference for those to whom you have gifted items.
