I have a customer that wants a set of grips engraved with a logo that is about 0.75" in diameter. It includes text, some being about 3/32" tall. Couple of questions.....I have access to a laser engraver, but would be responsible for setting it up and running the engraving, which I've not done before, what is the learning curve and what format is usually required for the file?

Will a laser engraver produce legible/clean text that is 1/8" or less in height?

For a logo this small, are details still possible?

I know there are a couple of people here that laser engrave and I would be interested to see if anyone here would be up for doing the engraving.

Thought I'd tag @Tclem and @Schroedc to see if they could answer questions or possibly provide services to perform engraving.

Thanks,

- jason

I have the small lens for mine and can engrave small letters ( think I've done down to font 6 on Microsoft word) on pens and they look great.

Yes, it is possible to get detail that small. Most of the time I work from .bmp files, high resolution to start with is a must.

As far as setting it up, I'd think they'd be able to give you some approximate settings to start from....

Tony will your lazer work on metal, such as knife blades?

He has the same one I do and no, not enough power for that, I haven't been able to get decent results when I experimented last year, I've done a bit on anodized aluminum but that's about it.

Just had Plum Trophy located in Waynesboro MS. do some custom work on a knife blade for me. Had him burn a New Mexico cattle ranchers logo and brand on the blade. They are the only ones I allow to do work for me and as usual it turned out real nice.
