I cut up a Burl given to me this past weekend and had some pieces I cannot do anything with. I believe it is cherry but cannot be 100%. Some others in the identification forum think it could be an oak Burl as well. I would like to trade for something already cast. I turn pens and am looking forward to trying some pepper mills as well so I'm open to offers. First couple pics are dry and the darker pics are sprayed with DNA. Burl was dry!

I'd be happy to cast a few of those for you in trade. I'm working on some new castings now, but i could also cast some of what you send me instead if you'd like.

@matthew seibert That sounds good. Let me know when your ready. I would love to have a few of the piece I have on hand cast. We can work out a deal I'm sure! I have several really nice pieces that need some help. I have a pretty good pile of different Burl species here that I could trade you for your services on some that I would like to have back. If need be I can put some $ in the trade as well.

Sounds good. Whatever fits into a small or medium flat rate should be more than enough. If you send me a PM of the pieces you'd like cast and the size you need when all is said and done, i can send you a choice of colors to pick for the resin.

Ok, sounds good. I'm mostly turning pens and bottle stoppers at the moment but would love to have a couple pepper mills cast out of some larger pieces if you are able. I'll lay out what I have and mark the mill size blanks that I would like back. I have a bday party here at the house today for my daughter so it will probably be tomorrow when I get around to it. Thanks again.

@matthew seibert Ok Matthew, here's what's in the bucket. Let me know what you think. I will label the picture below that I would like back. The rest is yours. Please let me know if I need to sweeten the deal.

Here is an overal shot of what was in my bucket.

I would like to have these six pieces back.

These are what survived the bucket on the cherry burl. image.webp

This is ROB, a few pieces of HRB, some walnut burl and two pieces of Spalted maple. image.webp

This manzanita burl, some koa and some, mango etc. image.webp
Another shot with the manzanita, koa, mango and a few small pieces of FBE.

Let me know what you think.

Looks like great stuff!
I'm primarily looking for the live edge pieces, so i don't need the figured triangular pieces if you have other uses for them.
What would you like done with the 6 pieces? Do you have finished dimensions you're looking for?

The three pieces of walnut I would like pepper mill blanks. The bigger of the three you can cut to fit how you would like. So they should be 3x3x whatever you can get out of it in length. The bigger piece of HRB just square it to the widest dimension. The two smaller pieces I'm going to do pens out of so I'll let you look at those. So you only want live edge stuff, you don't want any of the Koa or mango that are wedge shaped?

I would bias towards the live edge stuff as to what fits in the box.
I'm primarily looking for stuff that would make a good looking pen blank. If you think it'll work, by all means include it.
The primary cost for the casting is the resin. Rough cost is $1/oz by weight.

Most of those blanks you want done are mostly solid, so from the pictures alone, i'm not that concerned about the volume required.
The piece you want me to square up, are you trying to get pens out of it? I have a few molds, so i can just see what i can make.
Also, as for colors here's what i have available:

Yes sir, the three on the left will be pen blanks so you are wilco to cut them as needed. The one on the far left just has a small void and it's already pen sized so that's an easy one. I'll take a look at the colors and get back to you.

Ok so for the colors:

The three walnut pieces how about we do the gold on the bottom left.

The two pieces of HRB lets do the rose color above that gold, unless it looks like it will clash with the HRB. It's hard to tell on that one. If it doesn't look right I'll trust your judgement on another color that will work.

The small pen blank lets do the green on the top right.

I'm going t o ship it out with a few extra pieces. If you feel I owe you something more just let me know. If you feel I went overboard just put some extras in the box in return.

Thanks!

@matthew seibert I tried to get it all in a medium flat rate and it won't fit so I'll grab a large flat rate on Monday and ship it out.

Matthew, it wouldn't fit a large flat rate for anything! I tried packing that stuff up three times. I didn't want to take anything out so it went into a big brown box. I will get it to the post office tomorrow and PM the info to you. Sorry it took a couple extra days!
