~\ENDED/~ Fruit or nut woods for pipe making

Rob i have Bartlet pear and an og hybrid pecan that is VERY dense & hard if you want any cuts in the future let me know

I was at Hearne Hardwoods this morning and he has just received a pack of European Plum shorts about 3ft long. There was some 8/4 stock in the pack. If this is any help, his price was $20 per bf. Like all fruit woods, there are checks and defects but for short items like pipes, there was a lot of good wood. Let me know if I can pick up any for you.

First two pics are kiln dry pear squares show a 2.5” square and two 2” squares plus a air dry in shop crotch that’s from 2” to 2-3/4” thick, 8” overall width and 10” long. Last three pics Cherry log section, air dry in shop 8 yrs or so, approx 10”x 7”x5”
Oh, in the first pic is a slice from an end to show actual color of squares. Oxidation over years makes outside look yellowish

Hey Tim received the pear and cherry today, thank you much appreciated

My son recently asked me if I could turn a pipe for him so I have been toying with the idea. Are there any resources for supplies for pipe making? Internet search didn't turn much up.

Thanks Eric...found that one and seems to be the only one :ponder: Would figure that the chuck jaws are out of stock

I've checked them out I'd rather practice shaping and drilling on less expensive wood good briar doesn't come cheap , but I'm sure once I build my confidence I will be making a purchase from them ,
