Hey guys I need some ABW 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 6" and I could use some other blanks with character in the same size. Just need a few for some turkey trumpets. The ABW doesn't need to be the best out there just dark since it is going to be paired with some holly. No cocobolo please as much as I like it I get sick now when I turn it but other than that I would like to see what you have that you are willing to let go. Nothing needs to be super fancy I just need different than what is on my shelves but I am not opposed to fancy either:good2:

If anyone has cutoffs that are 3/4" x 3/4" x 3" I can use them, too. Those are what I need for the mouthpieces and I like to use ABW or gabon ebony when I can but I use all types of wood for them if they compliment the trumpet colors.

Ok on my end I have some pot calls, a couple of trumpets and crow calls ready and of course bowls but I will spin something else for you or if you need a box call I will build that for you. Let me know what you have in mind and we will see about working it out.

I have straight grain, figured and some 3/4 stuff with figure in it. I also have Gabon ebony in 1.5" and 1" sizes. http://woodbarter.com/threads/gabon-ebony-1-5-turning-squares.21598/#post-271272

do you make any duck calls?

Yes I do. I do use Echo inserts but for a trade like this I would sleeve the insert so the outside of the call is all wood. Steve I saw you had some cutoffs in another post I wouldn't mind seeing some of those if you still have them. Like I said the mouthpieces don't have to be fancy just nice.

The ebony is either size would work plus that sounds cool when you say a call is made from that. Let me know what you have in mind and we will go from there. Thanks

I have a variety of blackwood pieces, figured and plain. Here's some pics of offcuts from a burl log I had. a lot in 3/4 to 7/8 thick, but has lots of defects; deep checking rotten areas. Check it out and see if it will work for you. I also have a few sizes of afzelia burl that would probably go well with the blackwood. I have a post with most of the pieces I have available in the for sale section.

Steve that looks like it will work. The mouthpieces are just 1/2" wide and 3" long and that tapers down to almost nothing at one end and the other end is only 1/4" for te first 1/2" of length so most gets turned away even with a 3/4" blank. The call blanks need to be good obviously and 6" x 1 1/2" I could use a few of those. Why don't you put together some pieces you want to trade.

If I could get one call blank that is figured that would be great but as long as they are not checked plain will work.

sounds good. I'll throw something together and shoot you a pic(s), hopefully tonight, for your consideration.

Mostly ABW; one square of gabon ebony (note the light colored streaking). other side is pretty black. The 4x4x1 piece is also gabon. One 7/8 square of amboyna burl also shown. all these will fit in a MFRB. I trimmed down the GE square to just fit. It has some end checking so no big loss. The figured ABW is in the lower left corner (4) squares.

Do you have some pics of your calls?

That is all pretty. Are the larger blanks 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"? And what would you like in trade?

Fabulous. I love the first one; is that DI & ABW? Is the box of wood an adequate trade in your opinion?

The first one is DIW and ABW it went to @shadetree_1 in a trade in fact. Is that what you would like a duck call along those lines? I think I have one piece of DIW left in the shop that would work. And the box looks to be a very fair trade.

Yes, i think that would be quite nice. I assume DI, being as high density, is a good tonewood like ABW? I've heard ABW is quite nice for calls, but haven't heard concerning DI.

Yes it is a very good wood IMO for duck or goose calls. Like all the other dense, close pored woods. Not only that it looks good even if it stinks when you turn it.

yes, it doesn't have the most pleasant smell, but I don't turn it very often so I can accept the smell for a little while.

PM me your address and I'll get the box out tomorrow.

Steve the box arrived today awesome wood. I am ordering parts and will post something for you as soon as I have it ready. Thanks you sure got your $ worth in shipping that box good thing it was flat rate cause you sure filled it up.

that was fast considering I sent it saturday morning. Did the box arrive intact? Some areas have gorillas working at the PO and the packaging doesn't fare so well.

I look forward to seeing your duck call. No rush on it. duck season isn't for a long time.
