I am currently working out a trade with @ Kevin. I am offering up some of my curly China berry turning blocks for a piece of his FBE. All of the China berry is dry and ready to turn. There is checking in 2 or 3 pieces but the worst is in the largest block which can be resale into a bowl and plate blank if desired. There is also one piece of camphor tossed in as filler to keep the other pieces from moving. 5 pieces total shipped in a regional rate C box. Let me know if u want them . Thanks.

Sorry, smart phone is being stupid. Pics coming in a few minutes

Jamie i love the curly chinaberry - camphor too. I'm always interested in the china when you come across more. Looking forward to the pics.

for size reference the spindle looking piece with the shallow check is a peppermill blank. the large piece with the pith/checking is about a 5x6x8-9 inch chunk.

Kevin, if you want them just PM me your address info and I'll take care of the rest.

Sizes are approximately:
China berry
8 x 8 x 6.25
8.5 x 6.5 x 6
9 x 6.5 x 4
2.75 x 2.75 x 11

Camphor
4.25 x 425 x 6

Jamie I'm not one of those guys that knows how to deal with cracks like the pros do - I'm gonna have to wait for some solid stuff. Maybe someone will w ant to resw them into pen and call blanks etc.?

Chinaberry is great to turn and one of those woods thats just amazing when the finish hits it. I've never had any curly. That should be off the charts when its done. Are there any cracks in the 8x8x6.25?

Scott I love curly c'berry I have made 2 peppermills with it. You're right it is off the charts man. Scott some of those are right up your alley for the size HF you like to turn grab 'em if you want 'em man I have passed on them. I just don't want to have to deal with the cracks.

I'm not getting in line - I'm asking for Kevin's sake - it looks like its a clear piece. I'd hate to see him pass on it
Ill have to get ya some clear pieces Kevin. I think one of the pieces is solid. Ill double check tomorrow and re=post only the clear piece(s). I can probably resaw some of the checking out of the others.

Kevin, I checked the chinaberry I have and each piece has some checking. If you were interested in some IRW i have some of that in log form....... not large logs, but definitely usable.

After checking my chinaberry stock I determined all pieces had checking. Sorry @Kevin, I was hoping to get ya some chinaberry. I ran across this IRW log (8.5-9 x 14) while in the shop today and I know you mentioned you were interested in some IRW. This log has curl and small burls If this fits the bill for ya let me know and we can move forward from there. Thanks.

as you can see in the last pic the lateral checking is in the sapwood and doesn't continue through the heartwood. this will barely fit in a regional rate C box.

I'm not trying to be a hard case Jamie but I just do not like big deep cracks in my wood. If you have anything without bad cracks I would be very interested but if it has cracks I will not want it, unless it had the kind of tight figure (curl or burl) that resawing the cracks out would give crack-free smaller blanks.

no problem. I should be getting some fresh cut IRW in the next week or so that I can offer up. Can you PM me the price of the FBE blank we were discussing? Just in case I cant find anything in my stash to trade for it.

Jamie I don't know if you still have this chinaberry but I have gotten pretty good dealing with cracks. I would be interested in getting this wood if you still have it perchance.
