@kazuma78 and I have been discussing a trade of Russian olive burl pen blanks for a finished pendant for my wife. I hope these are to your liking. There are 18 Russian olive burl shorts. I threw in a couple swirly spalted apple shorts plus a couple Russian olive burl thins and a creamy box elder burl thin for your jewelry making. All the burl pen blanks should be good to go with no need for stabilizing. To the rest of y'all wanting some, I will have more pen blanks for you. And I have casting material as well. As you can tell from the last picture, I have no shortage of burls. 20150625_092245.webp 20150625_092309.webp 20150625_092232.webp 1435246409946412656234.webp

Wow that looks fantastic! I don't have anything that's blue cast with brown wood that's big enough for a pendant but I do have a good amount of cool stuff to pick from. Let me take a picture and post it for you.

Do any of these look good? First pic is unwetted. second 2 pics are partially wetted so should give you a more accurate representation Of color and figure. Like any?

2015-06-25 16.06.27.webp I like area of the piece circled. How big is that? 1"x1.25"-1.5" would be ideal. I'm wondering if you could carve it into leaf. If not, tear drop or triangle would be good with the half sap/half heartwood.

That section should be large enough. I've never carved anything much before. I'd feel alot more comfortable doing a shape for now so I don't ruin it if that's ok. That's a really sweet section of wood, I've been wanting to use it for something for awhile but no specific purpose, so that's great. Would you rather have a tear drop or triangle.

Let's go with triangle with corners desharpened, broken, rounded, whatever y'all call that. Lol. I really like the wave in that wood.

Great! Triangle is the best way to optimize that piece of wood I think. I'll sketch it up tomorrow and post a picture for your approval before I cut it

Great! Thanks. I think I might try to do some carving here soon. Seems like a good way to work with wood that doesn't involve my accident prone butt using power tools. Lol

Well you could always do power tool carving haha Ive thought about it before but havent bought any of the burrs or anythng

Which one of these do you like better? One is bigger than the other. I'll round the corners when I cut it. If this isn't big enough I'll have to select another piece of wood but that's ok too.

I especially like the silver quarter you happen to have with you on deployment. Lol. Lucky charm?

No haha I'm actually a coin collector, it's a quarter I was going to use to make a coin ring out of. But I don't have the stuff here to do everything right so I didn't mess with it and start beveling the edges

This is actually my lucky charm. I've worn it every day for over 5 years. Except when my wife and I were dating and I left for basic training. I gave it to her to wear then because she knew it was one of my favorite things. But she gave it back after I gave her an engagement ring. :ok:

It's a Spanish 4 real made in Seville around 1630-1640. I had a jeweler friend of mine do the silver wrap for it.
