Bikerjim and I have a deal on the table, If things don't work out, I'll repost.

Hope I'm going about this the right way, I've got some spalted oak turning stock i'm offering up for trade. I thought some of you turners here might like try some pens, bottlestoppers or something with it. these are about 16" long, 2 1/2" x 1 1/2". they've got some punky spots, but i have turned some of it already and stabilized on the lathe with thin ca and they come out beautiful.

Not sure what I'm looking for in trade, I like nicely figured wood, no matter the type. let me know if anyone is interested, we can work something out.

Oh, the last pic is a pen i made from a piece of this very same, so you can see what it looks like finished out.

RE: spalted oak for turning

You interested in curly maple? I have a bunch of flat stock and as many pen blanks as one could ever turn. I also have a few stopper blanks. If your not interested, no big deal. I would just offer to buy one but the wife said I cant buy any more wood untill I sell some stuff, lol. Ive been buying non stop since joining here and I had to dedicate a portion of my basement to drying turning stock. Thanks Wood Barter!!!:good:

RE: spalted oak for turning

I'll get in line....behind gridlockd just in case you dont trade with him. I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but I have striking Flame Box Elder coming out of my ears that I would trade.

I would like to trade for all 3 of your blanks.

I also have some Tiger striped, tight curl and flecked Blackjack that I would trade. I think equal volume for equal volume would be a good trade.
Here is a picture showing one of my FBE blanks and 4 Blackjack blanks If you're interested, let me know either here or by Email

I think I'm going to pass on the curly maple, thanks for the offer though! If you like a pen blank or two, I may be able to scrounge some up i can send ya. In the interest of preserving the possibility of trade with you in the future. :good2:

let me see what i can scrounge and i'll let you know.

No problem. I'm currently good on the pen blanks, I actually just bought a whole box of spalted oak pen blanks from another member a couple weeks ago. I'm just getting stocked up on larger stuff now (stopper blanks, pepper mill blanks, etc.).

When you need some curly maple though, I'm your guy!!! I'm just about out of thicker stock but I have 4/4 flat stock shorts coming out of my ears. I actually need to start my own thread and try and get rid of some of it.

are you wanting to trade with gridlockd (me) or with bassblaster for the curly maple? your post kind of implies bassblaster, but then kind of me too. If its me, I am interested! :good:

If its me, I am interested. Definitely the FBE, and I am intrigued by the tiger stripe blackjack. equal volume is fine by me. In the interest of full disclosure, this one piece has a worm line in it what is difficult to see from the pics i posted. I can get a close up of it if you like. Shoot me an email or PM and we'll put this deal together.

Yeah, I'll do some trading with you. Here's a couple more pictures.
You give me an idea of what you want in terms of FBE/Curly Oak and I'll oblige. If you want, call me 918 361-6054

Jim, it could just be my screen but those FBE blanks do not look sealed. You have to seal that gihly colored FBE an *all* faces not just end grain or you'll lose it all and when it starts to crack it happens overnight.

Just a friendly caution if you don't already know about it.

kevin, they were fresh cut with the bandsaw. After the pics, they went immediately into the paraffin. Thanks for the reminder though.

RE: spalted oak for turning

Hey Jim,

How about this, I'll drop these guys in the mail to ya so you can inspect more closely. If you like what you see, send me equivelant FBE and a few blackjacks. Pen blanks, bottlestopper blanks, etc. If you don't like it, send it back to me, i'll pay return shipping, no harm no foul.

Since I'm new here, I would rather all the responsibility fall on me, til all you guys get familiar with me. :good:

How's that work for you?

John
