I am looking to trade some cherry mill blanks for blanks of other woods. Preferably species that are rare here in NE Vermont but perhaps common where you live. I have turned FBE and Mesquite and like them both but anything new and different is cool. I would consider trading one of the crushgrind mills pictured but would much rather trade blanks for blanks as I am working on building a little inventory for gifts.
4 of the blanks have some live edge that can either be incorporated into your design or be turned into chips. All but #2 have 1/3 to 1/2 sapwood #2 is pretty much all red heartwood. The ones I have checked are running around 14%MC the 2 that I turned were dryer on the inside around 7% (I know weird but that is what the meter said). I do not need dry blanks in trade as I have plenty of dry ones on hand to meet my needs for this winter. My blanks are all aprox. 3 x 3 x 12. I am OK with taking some shorter ones in trade if they are pretty. P1010013.webp P1010014.webp P1010015.webp P1010016.webp P1010017.webp P1010018.webp P1010019.webp P1010020.webp

Love the natural edge on the taller mill. Chuck
I was pretty happy that the bark stayed put as well as it did. It started to chip off some when I was roughing it out so I gave it a good heavy coat of CA and let it cure for a day before I finished it. I think the contrast between the heart and sap wood will really begin to stand out after the cherry ages a little.
Hope someone else wants to try one so I can make a trade for some blanks. I would probably let that mill go for some that I really like.

I still have a good assortment of these half sap mill blanks, I think I may have used one of the ones pictured but I have plenty more including some not yet cut to length that could be cut extra long for rolling pins or super tall mills. Still looking to trade for other species or will sell for $10 each plus shipping or take a LFRB full of 8 and I will pay shipping to U.S. addresses. Working in the shop today so I will take more pictures and get them up later today.

I'd be glad to trade for more but I don't have any right now because of these damn floods. Don't set any aside for me just sayin' don't burn them either! I will make a harvest eventually one day - I hope.

I will have you covered anytime you need some, I seriously doubt that I will sell out and I already have a couple more cherry logs to saw next spring and I noticed one of them has a pretty big sap layer .

I have plenty of really nice ERC blanks iof you don't have figured ERC large enough for PMs. I am making my son a travel mug with some today I can snap pics to show how awesome this stuff is. I love it (and have an endless supply).

I would be up for some ERC as I am sure you recall I have a bunch of ERC smalls but nothing really large enough for mills & such. Been thinking about ordering one of the travel mug kits. Do they need a little larger blank? No ERC growing wild around here and it is easy to turn.

Yes they call for 3.75 x 8 but I am using a 3.5 x 7.5 I had laying around and it seems like it will be fine. I have plenty of 4 x 4s though so I can send you some mug blanks too or all mug blanks and you can resaw. I would take a few mug blanks in 2 tone cherry of you have them as well.

Just been reading the instructions on the Rockler site and notice they use stave construction. Yes I would for sure be up for a mug blank or two. I am almost sure that I have no cherry that size but I will look.

If you read ther instructions closely it also says something to the effect "If you use a solid blank it needs to be 3.5" . . . " I doubt I will ever make one with stave construction because I don't care for the look except in a drum shell. Don't even like it for bowls etc. just looks tacky and cheap to me - that's just personal prefernce obviously many people love the look.
