**ENDED** white oak burl

[attachment=3882] this is my first post so bear with me. I have some white oak burl. very gnarly grain pattern. I can saw this wood to any size. pen blanks or bottle stoppers. this piece is 3 1/8 x 3 3 3/8 x 18 i have around 60 - 80 lbs left of this. has some worm holes in it, but very little. very little checking and from all the pieces i have turned with it, have had no bark inlay. very dense wood!!!! hand planed and just put an oil on it. right now the wood is at between 10 and 15 percent moisture content. 15$ a pound [attachment=3882] [attachment=3881]

not really interested in a trade right now i have more timber than i can deal with. i just harvested a red maple burl and have around 20 - 30 oak burls that have to be taken down due to the gypsy moths so i have to move some of my private stock

You say you can resaw it into pen blanks. Twenty two 3/4" X 5" pen blanks will fit in a small flat rate box but I have no clue on the weight. Can you give me a rough idea what a small flat rate of 3/4" pen blanks will cost me?

Based on the dimensions on the piece you posted and the weight for it, I calculate 1.8 pounds for twenty two 3/4" blanks. Dont ask how I came up with that because I probably couldnt do it again and I'm probably way off base. Can someone smarter than me please calculate. I just dont want to tell you to cut them up and then its twice what I thought. I cant afford 4 pounds of this today. I can probably swing 2 pounds though. Thats the kinda rough guusstimate I'd like.

ok so i cut one from different piece and came out to 2 1/ 8 ounces, did the math came out to .125 lbs x22 came out to 2.75 lbs I would have to see what size flat rate box i can smash all of those into if you are still interested i will cut it down to 2.25 lbs at 14 a pound being you want so many of the pen blanks be about 38-43 with shipping

Well, I don't claim to be smart, but I think your numbers are pretty close, since I figure it at 1.796 pounds.

3 1/8" x 3 3/8" x 18" = 189.84 in^3

5 lb 8 1/8 oz = 5.508 pounds

5.508 pounds / 189.84 in^3 = 0.02901 pounds / in^3

3/4" x 3/4" x 5" = 2.813 in^3 / blank

22 blanks x 2.813 in^3 / blank = 61.886 in^3

61.886 in^3 x 0.02901 pounds / in^3 = 1.796 pounds

1.796 pounds x $15 / pound = $26.94 + shipping
