Several years ago, I was at the Alamo in San An Tony and was able to pick up several Pecans from a tree that was planted there in 1839 or '49. If they aren't too old, I would like to plant them. I've heard that they would germinate quicker if the pointed end was down into the soil rather than just placing it in a hole and covering it. Anyone know?? Jerry (in Tucson)

Doesn't need freezer, but temps between 36 -40° for at least two months.

Article said to soak pecans for 24 hours at room temp, then put in damp vermiculite in bag in fridge.

They do it naturally in the pecan bottoms back home. But they are generally the natives. To get biguns you need hybrids!
