Here's a couple of platters I turned for a swap on another site. One now resides in California, the other is in Maryland.

First one up is walnut, finished with walnut oil, and beall buffed.
16" x 1 1/2"

And..... Ash with a persimmon insert and chrome beauty rings top and bottom. The back side is dyed with black shoe dye, then the whole thing is finished with Formby's tung oil and buffed.

Comments, critical and/or analytical are welcome.

Thanks for looking, and Happy Turning (if you're a turner)

Very nice Steve - I especially like the chrome beauty rings. That is a new treatment I have never seen before. I like it! Well done :good2:

Those are sweet! Did you fabricate the rings, or are they a product you buy? Looks like that shoe dye works pretty well, Mike is gonna love them!

Barry,
A little of both. I bought the rings at the big name Hobby store, but they only came in even number size increments. The ring on the top side needed to be 7", so I had to cut a section out of a 8" ring and re-roll it to close it back up. They also had brass, but not very many.

Mike got the ash piece, the other is in California. And yes, I do believe he liked it.

Very beautiful. I don't like the shoe polish but I am a narrow-minded hardheaded idiot so that opinion doesn't count. Excellent work Steve.
